The Garage Has Water
This past spring, the Platteville Community Arboretum was awarded a grant from the Robert A. and Marjorie M. Hartshorn Trust of the Platteville Community Fund of $2,700. These funds went toward the installation of a new water line to the Arboretum’s garage.

Our installation was added to another water line project that was years in the making. Bill’s Heating & Plumbing was in a similar need for a water line. Since the two buildings are in close enough proximity and would connect to the same water main, the PCA made an agreement with the owner, Bill Neihaus. A trench and junction would also be excavated to reach the garage. Bill also donated some materials to the PCA for this project.
The PCA is grateful to both Bill’s Heating & Plumbing and the Platteville Community Fund for making this project a reality. This addition changed everything about our weekly work on the trail this past summer.

Clay Shaffer, the PCA’s Deputy Coordinator, expressed how having access to water was a game-changer for the PCA. Before a water line, Clay would have to visit the Platteville City Garage for water fill-ups. This summer, instead of driving over for the city’s water supply at their garage, Clay and the volunteers saved a lot of time by simply filling up buckets or tanks at our garage. Now we can clean hands, tools, and equipment properly after a shift. The nursery can be watered easily as well. This water line has improved the upkeep of our trail immensely.
