Phase One: Fundraising for Land Reaches $200,000

The 2025 summer marks a big achievement for the PCA that was months in the making. Back in September 2024, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources awarded a 50/50 grant of $136,700 to the City and PCA. (See the letter here.) After months of meeting with possible donors and mailing letters, the Valley-to-Eastside Expansion Project received enough donations to start acquiring the five parcels of land. Almost a hundred donors gave a total of over $200,000 to this land acquisition project. In July 2025, two parcels were purchased.

The 15 acres of land will ultimately become public land, so we work with the City of Platteville to purchase this land. Note that the City Council had to vote on this resolution (see document), and accept it (document) before the PCA could go forward.

The parcel on Valley Road is the most interesting because of the possibilities. It should become a trailhead with parking, but it *could* also have gardens, picnic area, informational kiosks, a shelter, outdoor seating and maybe even bathrooms. There's also a stretch of abandoned railroad bed from Business 151 to Eastside Road that's almost a mile-long that would expand the trails in town.

There are special Donor Recognition Levels:

  • Porter ($2,000-$4,999)

  • Conductor ($5,000-$9,999)

  • Dispatcher ($10,000-$19,999)

  • Engineer ($20,000+)

Donors at these four levels will be acknowledged on special kiosks, press releases, on this website, and through social media.
