PCA is dedicated to seeking any funding that helps the trail, and candidly, to bring tax dollars back to Platteville. After hosting Department of Natural Resources (DNR) representatives in October 2024 to see our trail and to educate us on how we might get trail maintenance funding, Inspiring Community’s grant writer, Angie Wright, collaborated with us and generated a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant request. In the fall of 2025, the DNR notified PCA that we had been awarded about $93,000 for the following trail maintenance items:
Sealcoating the entire 3-mile trail, which saves the City and PCA about $15,000 each over next five years.
Crack-filling the surface and rebuilding bridge approaches.
Removal of 3.5 acres of honeysuckle.
Planting 25 new trees (already completed in Fall 2025).
Planting 25 new shrubs.
Funding about $10,000 of part-time coordinator salary.
Other specific trail maintenance expenses.
Special thanks to board members, coordinators and friends that assisted in this grant application. You made a difference!
